Professor Branislav Kolarovszki is a renowned consultant in the field of neurosurgery. He is an internationally recognized specialist in the field of surgical treatment of the degenerated spine, hydrocephalus in both children and adults, and craniosynostosis. As part of the surgical treatment of brain tumors, he uses modern methods of intraoperative navigation, neuromonitoring and also performs brain tumor operations while the patient is conscious (so-called awake operations). He is an expert in complex reconstructive procedures for skull defects after severe brain injuries using individualized cranial implants. He is a pioneer of personalized surgical treatment of the degenerated cervical spine, in which he uses individualized cervical intervertebral disc replacements made to measure with 3D printing, for which he was awarded as the winner in the Top Innovations in Healthcare in Slovakia survey in 2018. In 2021, he was awarded the Top doctor in neurosurgery in Slovakia in the prestigious survey of Zdravotnícky noviny.
Professor Branislav Kolarovszki completed his medical education at the Jessenius Faculty of Medicine in Martin, Comenius University in Bratislava. During his clinical practice, he completed several study stays and courses at prestigious clinics and universities abroad (e.g. Zurich – Switzerland; Strasbourg – France; Krakow – Poland; Berlin – Germany; Vienna – Austria; Kathmandu – Nepal; Prague, Ostrava, Pilsen, Brno – Czech Republic; Pécs – Hungary; Tolochenaz – Switzerland). In 2019, Professor Kolarovszki participated in the important global exhibition of medical technology and technology Veľtrh Medica, Dusseldorf, Germany, where he presented the use of individualized cranial implants and individualized cervical intervertebral disc replacements made to measure by 3D printing in neurosurgery. Participation in the exhibition was supported by the SARIO agency (Slovak Agency for the Development of Investments and Trade) of the Ministry of Economy of the Slovak Republic.
In the period from 2018 to 2021, he participated as a co-investigator in the multicenter anonymized study GNOS (Global Neurotrauma Outcome Study), the main investigator – prof. P.J. Hutchinson, Department of Neurosurgery, Adenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge, UK. The results of the given study were successfully published in the top foreign journal Lancet Neurology.
Since 2014, Professor Kolarovszki has been the head of the Neurosurgery Clinic of the Martin University Hospital and the Jessenius Faculty of Medicine in Martin, Comenius University in Bratislava. He is an active member of several domestic and foreign professional estate and scientific societies. He works as an assessor of applications for grant projects of VEGA (Scientific Agency of the Ministry of Education of the Slovak Republic). In 2022, he was appointed by President Zuzana Čaputová as a professor in the field of surgery.
Professor Kolarovszki has extensive national and international experience in the field of scientific research. He was an invited speaker at several domestic and foreign scientific conferences.
As part of the promotion of neurosurgery among the lay public, he appeared on television and radio channels such as RTVS, TA3, Markíza and Rádio Regina. He is an editor and reviewer in many foreign scientific journals. He educated a total of 4 PhDs. students and published in renowned, important foreign magazines.
